We were gifted with a wonderful box full of OuHuis Rooibos teas that we spent most of February reviewing on Instagram. These teas really are wonderful, we particularly enjoyed their Sage, Lemongrass and Espresso teas – for different reasons. Without further a due here are all the individual reviews collated into a single place for your tea learning pleasure…
OuHuis Chamomile

Ouhuis Blackcurrant
When you open the pack of OuHuis Rooibos Tea with Blackcurrant flavor and take a sniff a lovely mild and sweet berry smell teases your taste buds. The tea brews into a strong dark tea and as it cools to a drinkable temperature, wafts of blackcurrant fill the air. Yummy! The tea is strong but the blackcurrant flavor is not overpowering. This tea will taste really well served with some milk and sugar, these will enhance the blackcurrant flavor as you sip your tea. Don’t like additives, don’t worry the tea leaves a wonderfully pleasing aftertaste. I think this would make a wonderful iced tea and will pair well with sweeter tea treats, particularly if you don’t sweeten your tea.
OuHuis Lemon
OuHuis Rooibos and Lemongrass smell and tastes great, whether you add sugar or not or whether you drink the tea hot or cold. When you sniff the newly opened package of tea, the lemon is very inviting. As you bring the tea up for sipping the lively lemon welcomes you. The tea is very refreshing and brews into a strong cup that is not overpowering. When you finish your sip the tea leaves a similar aftertaste that a lemon sweet would, particularly if you added sugar to the tea. The tea is not acidic and doesn’t make your toes curl. So if you have been hesitant to try a lemon tea, this is a good choice. The Rooibos is naturally sweet and blends well with the lemon. Lemongrass is good for digestive disorders, stomach cramps, flatulence, arthritic pains, colic and fevers.
OuHuis Buchu
OuHuis Rooibos and Buchu has a distinctive taste and smell. This Rooibos buchu blend, brews into an unsweetened, silky minty tea that can easily be had with or without milk and sugar. Or with milk and sugar should you prefer a sweeter tea. The tea is mildly astringent. This caffeine free tea would make a good after dinner tea, pairing well with heavy meals. Buchu is a protected herb that grows naturally in the Western Cape of South Africa and has a few good healing properties.
- It is a good antiseptic,
- a natural anti-inflammatory,
- helps in the prevention of cystitis as well as the prevention of prostate and kidney problems.
- It aids digestion.

- helps the body rid itself of excess water.
When you smell into to open packaging wonderful herby-minty aromas catch your nose. The brewed tea shares these same aroma qualities with an added eucalyptus characteristic and has a silky smooth feel in the mouth. A wonderful strong cup of tea brews, characteristic to the Ouhuis tea brand. The tea has a lovely earthy red/brown color.
OuHuis Vanilla
This @ouhuisrooibos Rooibos with vanilla flavor tea is sweet on its own with the vanilla lending itself well to the Rooibos. This tea will make a wonderful iced tea, particularly for those of us watching our weight. Pair this tea with sweet or savory foods. If you have a big sweet tooth- pair it with the sweet tea treats.
Vanilla comes from vanilla orchids. A flowering plant genus of about 110 species with the most widely known one is native to Mexico. It is from this plant that commercial vanilla is derived. As we have come to know the quality of the OuHuis teas, this tea does not disappoint- the aroma can be smelt almost instantly and it is sweet and pleasing. Vanilla flavored tea fans will not be disappointed.
OuHuis Ginger
Personally, I am not a fan of food or drink that causes discomfort on the way down, food is supposed to be enjoyed, why would you punish yourself! Some ginger teas are so strong, I dilute them. One pouch makes two cups. Ouhuis Rooibos and ginger (12%) is right up my street. When you open the packaging you get a wonderful smell of freshly grated ginger, the brewed tea smells the same and is very pleasant to drink. There is no burn at the back of your throat. This tea would pair well with cupcakes and cheesecake. If you have never given ginger tea a try, this is one that you can start with. For strong ginger lovers, I think this tea will disappoint.
Ginger is a flowering plant whose rhizome, ginger root or simply ginger is used widely as a spice or herbal medicine. The ginger plant grows to about a meter tall and bears narrow leaf blades and pale pink flowers.

OuHuis Green Unfermented Rooibos
A lovely gentle green Rooibos tea with a hint of sweet grass. Perfect for those wanting to experiment with Green Rooibos but are hesitant. A great tea to cook with: marinades, desserts, smoothies – it isn’t going to overpower the other ingredients. Traditionally Rooibos is left to ferment in the sun after picking, this does not happen with green Rooibos. Rooibos is called green, when it is harvested, cut and dried. Cyclopia, or more commonly known Honey bush is only found in South Africa. The honey bush tea industry is one of the youngest agricultural industries in South Africa.
